ADVANCED Coaching Clinic® :
Essential Conversations for Developing Others Licensing Program

Yesterday is not ours to recover, but tomorrow is ours to win or lose.
   - Lyndon B. Johnson

The future success of today's businesses is greatly dependent on developing tomorrow's leaders. Survey after survey seems to suggest that we are not doing well in this area, so it's no surprise that staff development — preparing the next generation of leaders and supporting skill development at all levels — is a top issue for business leaders around the globe.

One of the core competencies successful organisations now require is that managers focus on developing others to ensure continuity, smooth succession and sustained growth.

This program is designed to equip leaders to address that key competency.

Benefits of Essential Conversations for Developing Others

Building on the skills and tools introduced in The Coaching Clinic, Essential Conversations for Developing Others has at its core the belief that managers can successfully initiate developmental conversations through a coach approach. The program trains participants to :

Who is Essential Conversations for Developing Others for?

Essential Conversations is for managers and leaders who have completed the two-day Coaching Clinic and are ready to go to the next level with their coaching. After the pilot of the program in the spring of 2006, one of the participants wrote this note:

"I think the course was nothing short of momentous because of the practice and emphasis on the coaching model, especially the gap. This is my second career...in my former life I was an Air Force officer and, as such, got "oodles" of leadership and behavioural training from situational leadership to Maslow's hierarchy and many others. Nothing I had during my 20 plus years in uniform came close to the clarity and completeness of what I got between the coaching clinic and developing thers...nothing! More often than I care to admit, coaching opportunities are smothered by the pace of work...but - however fleeting - they do exist and the use of the concept of defining the gap helps me enormously in creating the opportunity for an intelligent conversation of sentences instead of monosyllabic grunts."

What is included in the four-day program?

Benefits of attending the Licensing Program

The Essential Conversations for Developing Others Licensing Program (ECDO-LP) is designed to stretch, challenge and build on participants' coaching and facilitation skills while equipping them with the knowledge and tools required to lead a successful Essential Conversations for Developing Others program.

In the four-day licensing program, participants both experience the ECDO course, and learn how to deliver it. The master facilitator(s) will challenge licensees to learn through interaction and direct practical experience. In addition, participants receive training in coaching ‘at the front of the room’. Because this program has a high coaching content, facilitators leave this training with more advanced coaching and facilitation skills.

The program is structured such that on each of the four mornings, participants experience a half-day of the two-day EDCO program. In the afternoons, participants explore the content in more detail through additional applied exercises, practice sessions, role-play and discussion groups.
